2 Stowell Avenue, Worcester
[directions]
A planned duplex at 2 Stowell Avenue in Worcester represents the 25th and 26th homes built by GWHFH since we incorporated in 1985. Using an over-under building design, the first-floor will be fully accessible for individuals with disabilities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Support for the project will come from a variety of sources. While the site was purchased from the Massachusetts Highway Department with a HOME (Housing and Urban Development HOME Investment Partnerships Program) grant provided by the City of Worcester, on-going donations from individuals, community organizations, local businesses, foundations and corporations are anticipated to provide a significant portion of the project’s funding.
Major contributions for the construction phase of the project are expected from efforts associated with two, volunteer-led initiatives: University House and A House Built on Faith. These two programs propose to collect and focus contributions, special-event proceeds and volunteer labor from local college, university and high school students as well as communities of faith throughout the life of the endeavor.
Contributors to the project include: Bank of America Charitable Foundation, Bike and Build Foundation, the City of Worcester, the CitiGroup Foundation, the Fletcher Foundation, MetroWest Habitat for Humanity, Salem Covenant Church, Stoddard Charitable Trust, the United Methodist Foundation of New England and the Wyman Gordon Foundation. Supplies from Wachusett Lumber lead the typically long list of in-kind gifts of building materials and professional services.
For more information:
To get involved volunteering on the build-site:
- New volunteers should first attend a Volunteer Orientation
- For those who have already volunteered with GWHFH or who have attended an orientation, GWHFH will contact you in June once the construction schedule is set. Volunteers can then sign up for when they want to volunteer on a first-come, first-served basis.
